League Power MSMC Upends Purchase

MSMC defeated Purchase in the Panthers' league opener Thursday night.

Newburgh, NY (Dec. 1, 2011) – Host Mount Saint Mary handed visiting Purchase a 59-38 defeat Thursday night.

A nice all-around effort led the Knights past the Panthers as MSMC won its fourth game in a row to move to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Skyline Conference. The Panthers fall to an even 3-3 on the season and 0-1 in league play.

Although the Panthers netted the first two buckets of the game, a jumper by Mount senior Amanda Horvers with 13:28 left in the first half put the Knights on top, 9-8. The Knights benefitted from 19 Panther turnovers and converted 21 points off turnovers in the first half alone.

Jen Mocanu banked in a layup with four minutes elapsed in the second half to extend their lead to 27, 41-14. The Knights used runs of 6-0 and 5-0 to put the Panthers away. Fifteen of the Mount's 25 second half points came from the bench.

Horvers led all scorers with 15 points and also added five steals. Mocanu chipped in with 14 points.

Purchase center Rachel Perrone (SO/Poughquag, NY) scored a team-high eight points and Alyssa Guido (SR/Cliffside Park, NJ) chipped in with seven points.
