Brooklyn, NY
(Sept. 26, 2011) – Host Brooklyn upended Purchase in overtime Monday night, winning 2-1 in the extra session for its first win of the season.
Purchase (3-2-1) squandered several golden opportunities in the second period to put the game away before the Bulldogs scored three minutes into OT. Brooklyn's Kingsley Boakye took a pass from Lindsay Hernandez and launched a shot from 25 yards out that found the corner of the net.
The BC squad had seen this play out before as they entered play Monday having lost five games this season, and as recently as Saturday's defeat to the hands of conference rival York, by just one score.
The game started similarly, as Purchase's
Blaise Bourgeois (SO/Rochester, NY) scored on a breakaway after receiving a nicely placed pass from teammate
Stefan Gohler (FR/Brooklyn, NY) – the Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week.
Brooklyn (1-6) seemed determined not to settle for a defeat on this day, and came back with a goal of their own just minutes later, as Peterson Petit Frere placed a ball beautifully for Yuriy Trushkevych, who beat his man and buried one in the back of the goal to knot the score at one.
For the remainder of play in the half, both teams missed out on some scoring opportunities but could not take the halftime advantage.
The defensive battle ensued for another 45 minutes, prompting OT.
Brooklyn controlled the first couple of minutes of play in the extra period before Boakye was able to lift his team to their first win of the fall.
Purchase will look to get back on track Wednesday at home. The Panthers will face conference rival Farmingdale State at 7 p.m.
