Purchase, NY (Jan. 12, 2012) – Welcome to the club – the 1,000th-point club, that is – Alyssa Guido!

Guido (SR/Cliffside Park, NJ) became just the third female player of Purchase's modern era return to National Collegiate Athletic Conference (NCAA) play to score 1,000 career points for the Panthers. Guido joins former stars Jen Danio and Jessie Domes in reaching the milestone since the program reentered the NCAA fully in 2007.

Guido was the star of the night for Purchase. The senior forward scored 26 points, including 16 in the first half. She needed 14 points coming in and hit a pair of free throws late in the period, swishing the front and back ends of the two shots to reach the impressive marker.

Guido, who is the second all-time leading scorer at Cliffside High School, surpassed the 1,000 milestone in high school and now college. She played two seasons at Rockland Community College, where she totaled 736 points. Last year, she tallied 148 in 14 games played before injury cut short her season.

Guido needed 116 points at the start of the season and eclipsed the total tonight – doing so in grand fashion.

Upon hitting the free throws, the crowd rose to its feet and gave Guido a standing ovation. With her family and friends on hand, the scorer's table took a brief timeout in order to give Guido her due. Her Panther teammates rallied around her at half court and she received a special commemorative 1,000th-point basketball to honor the moment.

Guido finished with 16 in the first half and 26 for the game, leading all scorers. Unfortunately, the Panthers didn't fare as well, falling 71-44.
Jessica Bullock (JR/Thiells, NY) and Jess Lindsay (SO/Rochester, NY) contributed seven and six points, respectively in defeat.

Old Westbury (7-6, 3-2 Skyline Conference) had four players finish in double figures, including Deslyn Applewhaite, who paced the rival Panthers with 17 in the annual “Battle of the SUNY Panthers.” She connected on a half-court 3-pointer as time expired in the first half – one of several scoring highlights for red-hot OW. The visiting Panthers shot 50.8 percent for the game.

Purchase, which trailed 39-20 at half, is now 4-7 overall and still searching for its first league win (0-4).
