(Jan. 30, 2012) – In a rematch from a game three weeks ago, Purchase once again got the better end of the outcome, downing John Jay 63-56 at the Doghouse on Monday evening.
The loss drops the Bloodhounds to 6-12 overall, while Purchase improves to 6-11 and snaps a three-game losing streak.
John Jay was led by Jamecia Forsythe with 15 points, eight rebounds, five steals and five blocks and was the lone Bloodhound to score in double figures. Meanwhile Elizabeth Newton added nine points and eight rebounds in the contest.
Purchase was paced by
Alyssa Guido (SR/Cliffside Park, NJ), who poured in 29 points and swiped five steals in another terrific effort.
The game was close from start to finish with neither team leading by more than six in the first half. The contest saw five ties and five lead changes in the first en route to a tie score at halftime at 36-36.
The Bloodhounds opened play in the second half on a 7-1 run to take a 43-37 lead.
John Jay maintained a narrow lead until the Panthers tied the score at 44 with 11:13 to play. Moments later, Purchase took the lead via a 7-0 run that put the Panthers up 49-44 midway through the second half.
Then, the Panthers opened a nine-point lead and were up 58-49 with 5:08 to play. The Bloodhounds were down 60-54 and could have edged closer, but missed two shots over a minute and a half span.
Then the Panthers connected on a free throw with 1:03 to go to go back up by seven. Then John Jay committed a turnover and a missed jumper before Purchase made two more free throws with twenty-three seconds left to go up buy nine and put the game out of reach.
