(Jan. 4, 2012) – The latest chapter in the “Battle of Anderson Hill Road” turned up Manhattanville Wednesday night.
The neighboring Valiants (5-7) took the annual saga, 76-47, building on an early 32-20 halftime lead at Purchase. The Panthers fought valiantly in the first half, but are still short in terms of roster length and are adjusting to several changes in the starting lineup.
It was evident in defeat as host Purchase could not keep pace with Manhattanville, especially in the second stanza.
The Valiants were led by four double-figure scorers, including Stephanie Vaiano, who finished with a team-high 14 points off the bench. Kelli Hyjek and Jennifer Mcsharar added 12 apiece, while fellow starter Courtney Turner chipped in 11. Mcsharar finished with a double-double, netting 12 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in the win. Hykek duplicated the feat, adding a game-high 14 boards.
The Panthers, which were outshot 38.6 to 29.2 percent for the game, were led by
Jess Lindsay (SO/Rochester, NY). She scored a season-high 25 points in the loss.
Alyssa Guido (SR/Cliffside Park, NJ) added eight points.
Purchase (3-5) will return to action Saturday at home as the team's conference schedule resumes against NYU-POLY.
