Purchase, NY
(Feb. 11, 2012) – The women's basketball team couldn't match an impressive first half Saturday at home as the College of Mt. St. Vincent utilized an equally impressive final 20 minutes to take the ballgame, 73-57.
In a matchup that was truly a tale of two halves, Purchase (7-16, 0-13 Skyline Conference) failed to squeeze its hands around the team's first league win of the season. The Dolphins trumped the Panthers with a late first-half surge, leading 35-33 at the break and then outscored the Panthers 38-24 in the second period for the win.
Although the final score was disappointing for Purchase, the Panthers continued to show their mettle and tenacity in defeat. They shot 50 percent for the first half, holding CMSV to 41.2 percent, but a poor shooting second half (24.3 percent) contributed greatly to the outcome.
CMSV (6-16, 2-10 Skyline) shot 42.1 percent in the second half and made its comeback on the heels of three-point shooter Desiree Rosa, who finished with a team-high 23 points. She connected on six 3-pointers in the win. Kara McNish recorded a double-double (10 points and 12 rebounds) and Amy Delva added 14 points and six boards.
The Panthers were led by
Jess Lindsay (SO/Rochester, NY) and
Alyssa Guido (SR/Cliffside Park, NJ). Lindsay scored a game-high 25 points. Guido netted 19 and rookie sensation
Christina Rupp (FR/Ossining, NY) capped a nice afternoon with a double-double of 11 points and 11 boards. Captain
Alyse LaPadula* (SR/New Rochelle, NY) handed out a game-high 10 assists.
Purchase returns to action Wednesday at home. Senior Day is slated for next Saturday, Feb. 18 as the Panthers wrap the regular season at home.
