Brooklyn, NY (Feb. 4, 2012) – Purchase trounced NYU-POLY by 13 Saturday on the road.

The Panthers thwarted off a comeback attempt to win their eighth game of the season, taking the matchup 70-63 behind John Pressley (JR/New York, NY) and his team-leading 21 points.

Despite the comfortable final score, the Fighting Blue Jays took the Panthers down to the wire during Fandemonium weekend.

Down the stretch, Purchase went 7 of 10 from the charity stripe to withstand a trifecta of NYU-POLY 3-pointers all in the final two minutes.

The Jays played one of their best halves of the season, resulting in NYU-POLY taking a 34-31 halftime lead. Evan Azzam scored 21 of his game-high 24 in the half, which included a 3 of 6 performance from behind the arc.  He finished with four three-pointers. Alex Westphal and Brendon Henry each recorded double-doubles. Westphal with 12 points and 14 rebounds, while Henry had 11 points and 14 boards.

Pressley led Purchase with 21 points, including 15 in the first half. Teammate Justin Person (JR/Greenburgh, NY) had 12 second-half points to help Purchase build a 12-point lead with just under 3:00 to play in the game.

Newcomer Craig Davis (JR/Queens, NY) added 11 points in the win.
