Purchase, NY
(Sept. 15, 2012) – Two goals from
Andres Romero proved to be the difference for Purchase men's soccer Saturday in a home tilt that counted as a road game.
The Panther newcomer, a standout transfer, scored the go-ahead tally on his first goal and then netted the game-winning goal on a free kick after the Beavers had tied the game once again.
Rookie
Kevin Riveros (FR/Port Chester, NY) scored Purchase's first goal, shooting a nice shot from the left side after a steal. CCNY's Felipe Maidana tied it at 1-1 before Romero (JR/Port Chester, NY) scored unassisted (83:57) for a 2-1 margin. Maidana would then net his second goal of the game, setting the stage for a dramatic final period. Romero's free kick gave Purchase the tightly contested contest of non-conference rivals.
The Beavers (1-4) played tough despite being a man down for most of the game.
In the victory, Purchase improved to 2-2 on the season. The game was played at Purchase, but the Beavers were the hosts in the matchup after CCNY needed to schedule the home game elsewhere.
