Purchase, NY (Sept. 11, 2013) – The Purchase College golf team emerged victorious in today's season-opener, outscoring William Paterson University 311-340 at Tamarack Country Club.

This was the fourth faceoff between the two teams and the first time Purchase came out on top.

"WPU always gives us a great match," said Purchase assistant coach Jonas Borra. "We came out hot today and got our season off on the right foot."

"And we are always looking to improve," head coach James Alfredo added. "William Paterson always puts up a hard fight with a lot of credit given to their coach, Brian Woods.  It is definitely a step in the right direction for us to take today's match."

The course at Tamarack is 6,783 yards long and has a par score of 70.

The Panthers were led by 2012 2nd Team All-Skyline player, Michael Wyckoff (JR/Queens, NY) with a 74 (+4).  Tying Wyckoff's score was rookie sensation Camden Fix (FR/Fulton, NY) who shot 37/37.

Rounding out the top four scores for Purchase were 2012 All-Skyline player Rory Mazur (SO/Ridgefield, CT) with a 78 (+8) and Andrew Kaplan (SO/Cooperstown, NY) who shot his best score in collegiate uniform, an opening 85.

For the Pioneers, Michael Calabro led his team with an 83(+13).

The Panthers have little time to rest before they travel to Lewisburg, PA for the 2013 Bucknell Invitational.  Purchase will face-off against ten teams including some of the best Patriot, IVY and Canadian collegiate talent in the country.

"It's going to be exciting," added Borra. "We play 36 holes on Saturday and 18 to finish on Sunday.  It will be a real test of golf for these guys and will certainly get them into shape for the rest of the season."
