Box Score

Purchase, NY (Sept. 14, 2013) – It wasn't supposed to be the team's home opener, but a conflict for visiting John Jay shifted the matchup from New York City to Purchase Saturday and provided two major highlights for the Panthers.

Not only did Purchase win the contest in overwhelming fashion, 9-0, topping the Bloodhounds for its first win of the fall campaign, but the Panthers also secured the first win for Andreea Oncioiu as a head coach at the college level.

Purchase bounced back after last week's first away match against Baruch.

"We really saw our weaknesses and where we needed to improve, and we went out to practice every day and made sure we accomplished that for this week's match at home," Purchase's Juliette Ferraro (SO/Northport, NY) commented.

Angela Assal (FR/Bronx, NY) and Jasmine Rippey (SO/Deansboro, NY) led the team in first doubles with an 8-2 win, while Assal triumphed at first singles with a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Anna Palmer (SO/Nyack, NY) was seen for the first time on the singles court, a new addition to the team and proved a great contributor. Her progress and talent helped her finish strong with a 7-5, 6-1 win. Katherine Coleman (JR/Dewittville, NY), Erika Fulton (FR/Wallingford, CT) and Emma Yavel (FR/Brooklyn, NY) also posted singles wins for the Panthers.

"Playing my first singles match today was very exciting," Palmer said afterward. "I am so happy to contribute to my team's success by beating my opponent. I love being on the Panthers' tennis team and I don't see anything but further improvement and success for the rest of the season."

The team's next competitor will be York College on Sept. 18 at home.
