Hackettstown, NJ (Sept. 7, 2013) – A late goal was the difference Saturday as Centenary rallied for a 2-1 win over visiting Purchase.
Reid Meeker's goal with under 14 minutes remaining in regulation proved to be the game winner Saturday night at Morrison Field.
Meeker slipped in front of a defender and headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner-kick feed. The score was the fourth of Meeker's career.
Purchase took the lead midway through the first half as Myles Clohessy (SO/Cornwall, CT) received a lead pass from Junior Sanguina (JR/White Plains, NY) and slipped the ball past the keeper.
The score remained the same until the 69th minute when Centenary tied the game at 1-1 on a header. Meeker followed just under eight minutes later with his first career, game-winning goal.
The Cyclones outshot the Panthers 6-3 and recorded all eight corner kicks during the match.
Despite the loss, Purchase goalkeeper Esteban Aguilar (SO/East Hampton, NY) continued to play well. He blocked four shots.
Centenary, which improved to 4-0 all-time against the Panthers, with all four triumphs coming by one goal, upped its record to 2-1-1, while Purchase fell to 0-3.
