Purchase, NY (Jan. 30, 2014) – The Blue Knights of Mount Saint Mary College were fully charged tonight, downing Purchase, 77-67, despite a record-turning Panther victory earlier this week.
The key contributors for the Panthers were Jazmin Garcia (JR/Peekskill, NY), Lineker St.Hilaire (JR/Wyandanch, NY) and Elizabeth Osowiecki (SO/Franklin Square, NY).
Garcia poured in a game-high 23 points and 12 rebounds, and added three assists and two steals. St.Hilaire went 4 of 9 from the field, creating 12 points, six rebounds, six assists and one steal for the home team. Osowiecki was an all-around stat contributor, tallying 15 points, two rebounds, one assist, two steals and one block.
The Panthers were down 46-42 at halftime. They returned to the court for the second go-around with a renewed sense of focus, forcing two turnovers within the first two minutes and scoring in transition. With their own mini-run, the Knights increased their lead to 10 with about 10 minutes of action.
Foul shots were a huge factor down the stretch. The Mount went 6 for 8 in the last 5:37 of the game and Purchase shot 3 of 6.
Purchase transitioned into a full-court press, slowing the Knights down as a result.
On the offensive end, the Panthers struggled early in the second half but redeemed composure after earning a trip to the charity stripe and pushing the score to 65-55 with less than six minutes to play.
The Knights had four players with double-digit points. Rachel Perrone led with 21 points and 11 rebounds. Natalie Candarelli, Lauren Romano and Nicole Scicutella added to the team's victory with 18, 14 and 12 points, respectively.
After this evening's game, Panther forward Jess Lindsay (SR/Rochester, NY) is only 12 points away from achieving her 1,000th career point.
Tonight's loss pushed the Panthers' conference record to 4-4 and 8-8 overall. They hit the road Saturday for another conference matchup against NYU-POLY. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
