Purchase Upended at CMSV

Box Score

Bronx, NY (Oct. 29, 2014) – The men's soccer team dropped a tight 2-1 decision Wednesday afternoon at the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

In the process, the Dolphins clinched their first trip to the Skyline Conference Tournament. Although the Panthers took the loss, Purchase still remains in the top six programs advancing to the postseason. Purchase will be the fifth seed in the tourney and will face SUNY Maritime on the road in Saturday's quarterfinal.

CMSV's Dennis Reyes scored his 21st goal of the season in the first half and teammate Pablo Tellez netted his second of the season in the second half to send CMSV home with the one-goal win.

Purchase would open the scoring with the first goal of the game in the 23rd minute when Samvara Anello (JR/Bali, Indonesia) dribbled into the box and tucked a shot into the bottom right corner at 22:08 for the early one goal advantage.

The Mount wasted little time knotting the score when Reyes found the back of the net just 13 seconds later.

The Dolphins held a 9-6 advantage in shots and an 8-1 edge in corner kicks in the opening stanza.

Both Dolphin keeper David Melchor and Purchase netminder Esteban Aguilar (JR/East Hampton, NY) made three saves for their respective teams in the half.

The game would remain tied at 1-1 until Tellez broke through for the Dolphins at the 63:01 mark of the contest. He finished off a passing play from Reyes and John Everson that originated at the top of the box. Tellez received the pass on the left wing and scored to the far post for his first career game-winning tally.

Purchase finished the second half with a 9-7 advantage in shots, but could not score the equalizer. The Dolphins rounded out the game with a 16-15 edge in that category and took eight of the 12 corner kicks in the contest.

Melchor picked up his ninth win of the season after finishing the game with eight saves. Aguilar rounded out the day with four stops for the Panthers.
