Box ScorePurchase, NY (Dec. 1, 2014) – Rutgers-Newark handed the Purchase College women's basketball team an 84-54 loss in their home opener game Monday evening.
Struggling to come off a three-game losing, the Panthers drop to 1-4 overall while the visiting Scarlet Raiders advance to 3-2 overall.
Rookie ace
Allison Haugh (SO/New City, NY) led all scorers with 31 points in the first home game of her Panther career. Haugh went 11-21 from the field and 9-15 from beyond the arc.
Elizabeth Osowiecki (JR/Franklin Square, NY) also had a double-digit night with 15 total points. She also added four rebounds and a steal along the way.
Rutgers-Newark got off to a hot start to open the game, taking a 6-12 lead before the first timeout. Maria Simmons led the charge for the visitors by working her way to six quick points. Simmons went on to score 13 total points in the game.
Continuing their hot streak, the Scarlet Raiders combined for another 33 points as they led the Panthers, 45-23, at the end of the first half.
The Panthers found more success in the second half, shooting 42.9 percent versus a first-half 31 percent. Despite their efforts, the Panthers continued to struggle on the defensive end, allowing the Scarlet Raiders to go 17-33 with 21 rebounds in the second half.
After tonight's loss, the Panthers are hoping to bounce back with a win on Wednesday as they travel to Bard College for a 7 p.m. non-conference matchup.
