New Rochelle, NY (Feb. 9, 2014) – The trio of Elizabeth Osowiecki, Jazmin Garcia and Lineker St.Hilaire proved to be too much for the College of New Rochelle on Sunday.
Albeit a close final.
The Panthers behind the big three handed CNR a 73-72 loss on its Senior Day.
In a game that saw 18 lead changes and 10 ties, it was fitting that the final possession decided the outcome in the non-conference matchup between the two at the Wellness Center.
The Blue Angels were not able to get a shot off in the final moments, dropping the one-point decision.
CNR's Jah-Leah Ellis led all scorers with a game-high 30 points, adding a game-high 22 rebounds and six steals. Jasmine Brandon chipped in with a double-double of her own, pouring in 24 points while pulling down 13 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass.
Osowiecki (SO/Franklin Square, NY) paced the Panthers with 21 points. Garcia (JR/Peekskill, NY) and St.Hilaire (JR/Wyandanch, NY) followed with 19 and 11, respectively.
With CNR leading, 30-28, with 1:07 left in the first half, the Blue Angels used a 7-2 run to close out the stanza to take a 37-30 lead into the break.
In the second half, after the Blue Angels led, 41-34, the Panthers whittled the lead down and took their first lead of the second half, 50-48, following a Jess Lindsay (SR/Rochester, NY) jumper with 12:43 left.
The Panthers led by three, 71-68, with 1:22 left before an Ellis layup and two Alyssa Pechin free throws gave CNR the lead, 72-71, with :33 ticks remaining.
On the ensuing possession, St. Hillaire drove and scored on a layup to give Purchase the advantage.
Following a missed jumper with six seconds remaining, the Panthers secured the defensive rebound, but turned the ball over with 1.7 seconds remaining.
However, the Blue Angels did not get the shot attempt off, sealing the exciting win for the visitors.
