Purchase, NY (Feb. 16, 2014) –  Purchase College defeated Yeshiva University, 80-51, handing the visiting Maccabees their eighth straight loss Sunday afternoon.

The Panthers remain undefeated in Skyline Conference play and advance to 21-1 overall.

The Panthers dominated from start to finish, holding the lead for the entire game.

Less than 10 minutes into the first half, Purchase gained an 11-point lead over Yeshiva. The Maccabbes had a close comeback, only training the Panthers by three points with six minutes left until halftime.

The Panthers then let off a barrage of points capped off by fan-responsive slam dunk by David Haughton (SR/Greenburgh, NY) where he "posterized" the Yeshiva backcourt.

This pushed the halftime lead up to 12 points. The Panthers led Yeshiva, 39-27, at the half.

Haughton totaled 10 points and nine rebounds during today's matchup.

Also highlighted in the Panther scorebook were Andre Nixon (SR/Harlem, NY) and Justin Person (JR/Greenburgh, NY).  Nixon had a game-high 22 points and grabbed six rebounds, all on the defensive end, while Person totaled 11 points, four rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Benjy Ritholtz and Yoni Eckmann, who had 15 and eight points apiece, led Yeshiva in scoring.  They attempted to keep their team in contention for the game but were overwhelmed by how deep the Panther bench was.

Coming off the bench, Jake Stevens III (SR/Brooklyn NY) had seven of the eighteen total reserve points. He also added three assists and two steals for Purchase.

The Panther bench led the boards in the second-half, pushing the lead up 34 points with over eight minutes to go in the game.

Yeshiva went 18 of 60 from the paint, shooting only 30 percent.  Purchase went 30 of 59, shooting 50.8 percent.

For Yeshiva, this was the final time that they will visit Purchase College under head coach Dr. Jonathan Halpert.  Halpert will be retiring after 42 years at the helm of the Yeshiva basketball program.  He has received numerous awards, including Skyline Coach of the Year in 2000 and 2010, and the National Association of Basketball Coaches 'Guardians of the Game' honor in the 2003-04 season.

The upcoming week will conclude the Panthers' regular-season schedule, preparing them for postseason action the following week. They travel to NYU-POLY tomorrow. Tipoff is 7 p.m.
