Women’s Basketball Moves into Three-Way Tie for Second Place

Newburgh, NY (Feb. 21, 2014) – Purchase carved up an impressive victory at Mount Saint Mary on Friday night, winning 71-58 against the Knights to move into a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings.

The Panthers are now 15-9 overall and 9-4 in the Skyline with one regular-season home game remaining – Senior Day this Sunday. The loss at the Kaplan Center dropped MSMC to 5-19 overall and 5-8 in league play.

The first five minutes of Friday's contests went back-and-forth, but Purchase began to pull away at the 14:53 mark.

Jess Lindsay (SR/Rochester, NY) sank a jumper to put the Panthers up, 12-11, sparking an early run that led to a double-digit lead. By the 8:14 mark, Purchase was up by 13 at 27-14, leading to the halftime score of 37-25.

Purchase kept its lead up in the high teens for much of the second frame, but the Knights slowly chipped away to cut the deficit. A mini run in the final minute by the Knights cut the Panther lead to 13 points by the final buzzer.

Jazmin Garcia (JR/Peekskill, NY) was all over the stat sheet for the Panthers, scoring a game-high 24 points to go along with nine rebounds, seven assists and three steals. Lindsay followed with 22 points and 10 boards for a double-double.

Rachel Perrone pulled down a rebound in the final 10 seconds to complete a double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 boards.  

Purchase held a 47-36 advantage on the boards and turned the ball over 23 times to 21 for the Knights. Purchase took advantage of the Knights' mistakes, scoring 29 points off turnovers.
