Centenary Tops Purchase

Cyclones Earn 3-0 Road Win

Box Score

Purchase, NY (Sept. 17, 2014) – Like the Panthers, Centenary College came into tonight's matchup with an identical 3-1-1 overall record, but the Cyclones were also undefeated on the road this season, and the visitors kept the trend going at Purchase.

Centenary improved to 3-0-1 on the road and 4-1-1 on the season in a 3-0 win over the Panthers in another tough non-conference matchup for Purchase. The Panthers are now 3-2-1.

In a relatively quiet first half, the Cyclones scored first on a Luis Marin goal. The strike was assisted by Abiodun Lawal.

The game went into halftime with Centenary leading 1-0.

But the second half is where the Cyclones pulled away, adding two late goals in the final 20 minutes of play. Marin, the star of the night, assisted on Magno Franco's goal for a 2-0 lead.

Makenson Joseph, a late reserve for the visitors, capped the scoring with an unassisted goal.

Centenary's defense limited Purchase, which had its opportunities, especially in corners, where the Panthers held a 10-4 advantage.

The Cyclones narrowly outshot Purchase 18-15, but capitalized better on their scoring chances. The late goals by Centenary proved to be the difference.

Centenary keeper Jesse Goleman earned the win in net.

Up next, Purchase will host St. Joseph's College-LI this Saturday at 2 p.m. as the Panthers return to their conference schedule. The matchup is part of a Purchase doubleheader, with the women's contest slated for 11 a.m.
