(Feb. 14, 2015) – Despite the efforts of three double-digit scorers, the Purchase women's basketball team dropped a Skyline Conference road match to the Rams of Farmingdale State, 70-56, on Saturday.
Senior forward
Jeidar Cole (Bronx, NY) led the Panthers with 19 points and 11 boards. Center
Elizabeth Osowiescki (JR/Franklin Square, NY) registered 17 points, seven rebounds, five assists, two steals and a block, while
Kristine Viven (JR/New York, NY) chipped in with 10 points and a game-high 15 boards.
Farmingdale's Andrea Desvignes led all scorers with 20 total points and eight steals.
The Rams went on a 4-0 run to open up the game. A Viven jumper would bring the lead down to two, but Farmingdale answered back with a quick nine points to bring the lead to 13-5 with 13:35 left in the first half. With less than eight minutes remaining, back-to-back layups from Cole followed by an Osowiecki jumper gave Purchase their first lead in the game, 20-19. The Panthers registered another seven points to close the first stanza, 27-25, in favor of the visitors.
Farmingdale's Jeanette Spillane tied the game at 27 off a layup in the opening play of the second half. The Panthers answered back with a
Michelle Rupelli (FR/Staten Island, NY) 3-pointer and jumpers from Cole and Viven to give Purchase a 34-29 lead. With 14:24 remaining, the Rams scored three straight 3-pointers and took back the lead. The home team never looked back as they outshot Purchase 32-20 the rest of the way. The Panthers trailed by as much as 16 points and allowed 14 turnovers in the second half.
With the loss, Purchase drops to 3-19 overall and 1-10 in the Skyline, while the Rams advance to 15-8 overall and remain undefeated (10-0) in the conference.
The Panthers are set to host Yeshiva University in their final home game of the season on Tuesday, Feb. 17 at 6 p.m.
