Armonk, NY (Sept. 15, 2015) – Purchase golf opened the home portion of its schedule Tuesday in the win column.
The Panthers soundly defeated New Jersey City University and The King's College in a tri-match at Brynwood Country Club.
The Panthers took first in the match, combining for a team aggregate score of 360 behind the solid play of Joseph Troop (SR/Stamford, CT), who posted an 83. Manuel Cervantes, Jr. (SR/Port Chester, NY) posted a 91, while Michael Allar (SR/Thornwood, NY) and Joseph Hart (FR/Riverhead, NY) both finished with 93s. Connor Brady (SR/Hopewell Junction, NY) rounded out the scoring with a 105.
The Panthers prowled the sloping fairways of Brynwood, hitting solid shots tee to green, the coaching staff remarked afterward, and many of the players seconded.
"It's the type of course that you need to play and familiarize yourself with to play well," Allar said. "There's a lot of undulation and sloping fairways and greens that are tricky."
"The course is right there in front of you but if you miss a fairway or green, it's a tough up and down," Troop added.
Purchase head coach James Alfredo said it was a good test. "We are consistently working on securing our tempo in our swings and this was a good workout for our players," he said.
Up next, the Panthers will participate in the Farmingdale Invitational at Bethpage Red Friday.
