Bethpage, NY (Oct. 27, 2016) – With the Skyline Conference postseason this Sunday and Monday looming, the Purchase College men's golf team used its matchup with Old Westbury Thursday in preparation for the two-day tournament.

And if the matchup were any indication, the Panthers look primed. Purchase defeated Old Westbury 366-447 at Bethpage Red.

The team was led by Joseph Hart (SO/Riverhead, NY), who fired a tournament low 78.  
 
"Very difficult conditions ... on and off rain with chilly temperatures. I'm happy with the way I hit it," Hart said after.  
 
Joseph Troop (SR/Stamford, CT) followed suit with a 79. Daniel Craddock (JR/Liverpool, UK) finished third for the Panthers with a 94, and Harry Backer (JR/Yonkers, NY) shot a 115 in his first event.  
 
"I really enjoyed the course and because of the weather, we did have the whole course to ourselves," said Craddock of Liverpool, England, "but despite the cold air, Harry and I hit the ball well."
 
The Panthers play in the championships Sunday and Monday. The event will also be held at the Bethpage Red course.
 
"It was a good workout for both teams.  Playing the course in such tough conditions, as we did today will get our teammates in good form for the weekend, when the conditions should be more pleasant to play in," Purchase head coach James Alfredo remarked.
