Purchase, NY (Nov. 14, 2016) – Longtime Purchase College instructor Jared Kirby has been promoted to the rank of Maestro di Armi – Master of Arms – at the Martinez Academy of Arms.

After 17 years of training at the academy, Kirby underwent an intensive examination, lasting eight, 10-hour days covering the theory, application, execution and teaching of classical and historical fencing. His promotion is an event not seen in the academy lineage for 16 years.

"It was grueling, exhausting and rewarding," said an elated Kirby, who teaches fencing at Purchase. "I am happy it is complete."

Kirby has been involved in Western Martial Arts and Combat for Stage & Screen for twenty years. He has trained across the US and Europe and has choreographed fights Off-Broadway, Nationally and in London. He is a certified instructor through the Martinez Academy of Arms. Kirby also has an ongoing Combat for Stage & Screen class in New York City.
