Bronx, NY (Sept. 11, 2016) – The Purchase golf team started their 2016 campaign off strong Sunday, posting a Skyline Conference win over Yeshiva University at the Pelham Bay Golf Course in the Bronx.

The Panthers topped Yeshiva 315-330 at 6,480 yard, par 71 course. Leading the way for the Panthers was Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY), firing a tournament low 76. Joseph Troop (SR/Stamford, CT) followed suit with a 77 of his own.

The tournament was played under beautiful skies with a gusty wind out of the west. "The conditions were nice but the greens were tricky for our guys, which often is the case when you play a course for the first time – the greens were the equalizer," said Purchase head coach James Alfredo.

Gethicker eagled the Par 5, 9th hole, which plays at 472 yards. "I hit a 4 iron approach from about 240 and it landed on the green and rolled up to a couple of feet," he explained. "It was exciting, and I'm glad that all I had was a tap-in."  

Troop almost had a hole in one on the 156 yard, Par 3, 12th hole. "I hit an 8-iron and the ball ended up about an inch away from the hole … it was an easy tap-in, which you always like to keep your round going!"

The Panthers will travel to the Elms Invitational in Springfield, Massachusetts this weekend.
