Purchase, NY
(Sept. 20, 2016) – Home sweet home.
That was the story for the Purchase College men's golf team Wednesday. The team returned from their early season travel, which included a victory over Yeshiva and a competitive finish in the Elm Invitational, to host non-conference opponent Mitchell College in the program's home opener. In the lone matchup for the Panthers at Tamarack Country Club in neighboring Greenwich, CT this season, Purchase posted a 338-355 final.
The tournament was held at the 6,500 yard, Par 71 course and leading the way for the Panthers was
Joseph Troop (SR/Stamford, CT) with an 82 and
Dylan Gethicker (JR/Lime Lake, NY) with an 83.
"The course played long today with the fairways being so lush from the watering," Troop said. "I was happy that the team put up some balanced scoring."
Joseph Hart (SO/Riverhead, NY) followed in the scoring column with an 85 and
Ian Oglesby (JR/Rondout Valley, NY) added an 88. "We were happy to have Ian in the lineup. He and Big Joe Hart where hitting impressive shots throughout. The course played tough as you'll see with the scoring. The guys on both teams had to deal with some tricky greens, as well. Par was more like 76," explained
Purchase head coach James Alfredo.
Daniel Craddock (JR/Liverpool, UK) finished the Panthers' scoring of five with a 97.
Michael Izzo from Mitchell College was low medalist, shooting an 80.
Up next, Purchase will travel to Long Island for the Farmingdale Invitational at Bethpage Red on Friday.
