Women’s Basketball Upended Against Conference Rival Rams

Purchase, NY (Jan. 10, 2019) – Purchase College women's basketball played host to Skyline Conference rival Farmingdale State Thursday night. Strong play on the boards lifted the Rams past the Panthers, 56-44, en route to their fourth win of the season. 
 
Purchase (7-6, 5-3 Skyline) opened the game up 5-2 thanks to two made free throws and a 3-pointer by Dejeana Peoples (SO/New York, NY). After both teams traded baskets, Farmingdale went on an 8-2 run to make the score 13-9.
 
Amber Jones (SR/Bronx, NY) sank a jumper to end the first stanza, with Farmingdale retaining the lead 15-13.
 
Purchase would bring their momentum into the second quarter, sinking three straight baskets, topped off by a 3-pointer by Shadai Plowden (FR/Yonkers, NY).
 
The Rams would respond by making three consecutive buckets of their own, and would go on to regain the lead, 22-20. Each team finished the quarter strong defensively, as the half ended with the scored tied at 26 apiece.
 
An Amber Yarter (SR/Albany, NY) 3-pointer would give the Panthers a 29-26 lead 15 seconds into the third quarter.
 
Each team fought hard throughout the duration of the quarter, which consisted of nine lead changes. Farmingdale would prevail in the quarter, however, ending the stanza with a 40-38 lead over the Panthers.
 
Farmingdale would establish their dominance in the final stanza, going on runs of 8-0 and 7-0, outscoring the Panthers 16-6 and ultimately leading to the Panthers' defeat, 56-44, in favor of Farmingdale.

Nia Miller led the Ram charge with a game-high 17 points and seven assists.

For Purchase, Peoples totaled a team-best 14 points to go along with six boards. Plowden also finished in double-digits with 13 points.
 
Purchase looks to get back in the win column on Saturday (Jan. 12) as they will be on the road to take on Skyline rival Mount Saint Vincent.
