Purchase, NY (Jan. 15, 2019) – SUNY Old Westbury pushed a large halftime lead that would set the visiting Panthers on a path to defeat the Purchase College women's basketball team, 80-56, in Skyline Conference action Tuesday evening.
Old Westbury's Davida Warren led the charge with a double-double performance. The junior center netted a game-high 28 points and 17 rebounds, to go along with two blocks and a steal.
After a back-and-forth opening 10 minutes that saw nine lead changes and ended in a tie, Old Westbury ignited to take a 47-31 advantage at the half.
A Warren layup stretched the visitors lead to 29 points (68-39) with under two minutes to go in the third quarter.
Purchase's
Dejeana Peoples (SO/New York, NY) connected on two free throws to open the fourth stanza. The Panthers saw their best shooting in the final 10 minutes, outscoring Old Westbury 14-12. The rally was short-lived, however, as OW closed the game in front 80-56.
Old Westbury (12-4, 6-4 Skyline) shot 75 percent from the foul line (12-of-16), led 66-18 in rebounds, and turned 18 Purchase turnovers into 16 points.
Charlotte Renker joined Warren with a double-double showing, contributing to the winning effort with 18 points and 15 boards.
For Purchase,
Amber Jones (SR/Bronx, NY) and
Shadai Plowden (FR/Yonkers, NY) recorded 14 points apiece, while Jones led all players with an impressive nine steals. Peoples finished with 11 points, three boards and two steals.
Up next, the Panthers head to Sarah Lawrence College on Saturday for a conference game starting at 1 p.m.
