(Jan. 19, 2019) – Purchase College is back to its winning ways after downing the Sarah Lawrence Gryphons, 70-41, in a Skyline Conference showdown Saturday afternoon.
With the win, the Panthers move to 8-7 overall and 6-4 in the Skyline. The host Gryphons drop to 1-16 overall and remain winless, 0-12, in the league.
Purchase saw double-digit scoring from four different players, including double-double performances from senior center
Nyasia Harris (South Fallsburg, NY) and freshman forward
Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY). Harris pulled down 10 rebounds and tied senior guard
Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) for game-best scoring with 14 points. Jones also notched an impressive nine assists. Plowden finished with 12 points and a game-high 12 boards and four steals. Senior guard
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) netted 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists
After a slow opening quarter that resulted in a tie score (10-10), Purchase pulled ahead early in the second stanza on a Jones layup. From that point on, the Panthers held onto the lead and never looked back.
Purchase closed the game on its largest lead of the night (+29). Junior guard
Savannah Lopez (Monroe, NY) connected from beyond the arc with 22 seconds left on the clock to secure the 70-41 Skyline victory.
Up next, Purchase will head to the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Monday to take on the host Dolphins. The Skyline matchup is a rescheduled game from Jan. 12.
