Women's Basketball Downs SJC, 72-40

Patchogue, NY (Jan. 3, 2019) – Purchase women's basketball opened the 2019 portion of its schedule on the road at St. Joseph's College (LI) Thursday evening. The Panthers dominated both offensively and defensively from the start, downing the host Golden Eagles 72-40.

With the win, the Panthers advance above a .500 record (6-5, 4-2 Skyline).  In defeat, SJC drops to 2-9 overall and 1-4 in the league.

Senior guard Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) led the charge with 24 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Senior center Nyasia Harris (South Fallsburg, NY) also contributed to the win, posting a double-double with 11 points and leading all scorers with 14 rebounds. Sophomore guard DeJeana Peoples (New York, NY) aided the offensive effort, adding eight points and grabbing four boards.

Purchase also received help from the bench. Freshman guard Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) who contributed six points and nine rebounds, while freshman guard Amber Rodriguez (New York, NY) and junior guard Savannah Lopez (Monroe, NY) combined for another 12 points. Rodriguez finished with a game-high four steals.

St. Joe's was led by Alicia Indence. The senior guard notched a team-high 11 points— all of which came in the second half— and Juliana Cintron-Leonardo added seven points and a team-high eight rebounds in the setback.

Purchase held the Golden Eagles to just 15-of-61 (24.6 percent) shooting on the evening. The Panthers shot 38.5 percent (30-of-78) from the field.

Purchase also dominated the boards, grabbing 56 rebounds, and totaling 22 steals.

Purchase is back at home this Saturday, joining the men's program in a Skyline Conference doubleheader against St. Joseph's College (Brooklyn).  Game times are set for 12 and 2 p.m.
