THROGGS NECK, NY – Purchase College men's and women's swimming took to the road Monday evening for a Skyline Conference meet at SUNY Maritime.
The Panthers put up a valiant effort but fell in defeat, 90-70 on the women's side and 120-90 on the men's, to the host Privateers.
Results
Brienne Westfall secured a first-place finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:34.74. She later clocked in at 1:11.51 in the 100-yard backstroke to record another top-scoring finish for the Panthers.
Westfall capped a stellar individual performance in the 100-yard breaststroke. Recording her third first-place finish of the night, the standout rookie topped all swimmers with a time of 1:24.31.
Also contributing to the scoring effort for the Panther women were
Diana Gilday (SO/Bellrose, NY) and Tattianha Welsh. Gilday picked up a third-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (32.00) and a fourth-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:42.64). Welsh clocked in at 36.70 in the 50-free—good enough for fifth overall.
On the men's side, Daniel Agostinho, Matthew Montan and Maz Kaufman broke the scoring ice for Purchase in the 50-yard freestyle with fourth, fifth and sixth-place finishes, respectively.
George Weisner and Matthew Hart kept the scoring run going in the 200-IM. Weisner finished with a time of 2:31.88 with Hart close behind at 2:36.70.
Purchase returns to action this Wednesday against non-conference Brooklyn College. The Panther home-opener is slated for 6 p.m.
