Women's Basketball Wins Second Straight with Victory Over Delhi

Plowden leads the way with 21 points; Krasniqi records double-double

Box Score DELHI, NY – Sophomore forward Shadai Plowden scored 21 points and senior guard Arta Krasniqi recorded the first double-double of her Panther career to lead the Purchase College women's basketball team to a 55-51 win over SUNY Delhi Thursday night at Floyd L. Maines Arena.

With the non-conference victory, the Panthers move to 2-5 on the season. The host Broncos drop to 1-7 in defeat.

Krasniqi (Bronx, NY) knocked down her first 3-point attempt to open the scoring for Purchase. The 6-foot guard finished the night with 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds. Plowden (Yonkers, NY) connected on 9-of-17 field goal attempts and 2-of-5 from beyond the arc to lead all scorers. She also grabbed three boards and a pair of steals to aid the defensive effort.

Both teams came out hot in the first half, as the opening 20 minutes featured nine lead changes. The Broncos broke away late in the second quarter with a 5-0 run to take a 29-21 lead but PC rallied with three unanswered points to cut the deficit to 29-24 at the half.

The Panthers stayed hot after the break, outscoring the Broncos 19-15 in the third quarter.

In the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, sophomore guard Jules Martinez (Brooklyn, NY) connected on a jumper to give Purchase a 45-44 edge over Delhi. The Broncos answered back with a 3-pointer (47-45) but Krasniqi netted one from 3-point range as well to push PC back in front (48-47). The teams would exchange the lead once more before a Martinez jumper gave Purchase an advantage it would carry until the final buzzer.

For Delhi, Sam Acuna made five 3-pointers to finish the night with 20 points. Kiera Holland recorded 15 points, while Camryn McDonald led the Broncos with five assists and nine boards.

Purchase shot 34.4 percent (22-for-64), making 5-of-22 triples. The Panthers held a 47-42 lead in rebounds. Delhi totaled 30.6 percent (19-for-62), connecting on 9-of-33 threes.
