(Feb. 2, 2019) – The Purchase College women's basketball team dropped a 75-66 Skyline Conference decision at SUNY Old Westbury on Saturday.
Davida Warren scored the game's first-four points to contribute to Old Westbury's 9-0 advantage to open the contest.
Panther senior guard
Amber Yarter (Albany, NY) put PC on the board with a pair of free throws before Old Westbury replied with back-to-back threes from Alexis Lopez to build a 15-2 lead with 6:06 remaining in the first quarter. Old Westbury outscored Purchase by 18 during a span of 9:03 in the second period to lead by 24 (44-20) before taking a 44-24 edge into intermission.
Old Westbury built a 28-point lead during a third period that saw Charlotte Renker drop in her 1,000th-career point at the 6:31 mark to become the program's sixth player to join the 1K club in 10 seasons. Old Westbury later extended its advantage to a game-high 39 points (96-57) with 2:52 remaining in the final stanza.
Warren went for 27 points (10-of-16 FG), 21 rebounds (tied career-high), two blocks and two steals to post her 16th-career double-double (12th of season) to lead Old Westbury. Charlotte Renker finished her big day with 20 points (8-of-12 FG, 4-of-4 FT), 15 rebounds, two blocks and a steal to register her 43rd-career double-double (15th of season). Lopez hit a career-best 6-of-13 from long distance to total 18 points while Tori Bellings followed with 15 points and 11 assists to record her third-career double-double. Monique Joseph added 12 points, nine assists (career-high) and eight rebounds to the victory.
For Purchase, senior center
Nyasia Harris (South Fallsburg, NY) registered 14 points and 14 rebounds while senior guard
Amber Jones (Bronx, NY) scored 14 points to pace Purchase. Freshman guard
Shadai Plowden (Yonkers, NY) chipped in with 12 points and two steals.
Old Westbury shot 47.6 percent (39-of-82) from the field, 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three-point range and 59.1 percent (13-of-22) from the free-throw line. By comparison, Purchase landed 33.8 percent (23-of-68) from the floor, 18.2 percent (4-of-22) from deep and 75 percent (15-of-20) from the charity stripe. Old Westbury won the boards battle, 59-37, and scored 22 second chance points off 26 offensive rebounds while outplaying Purchase in assists (26-7), blocks (9-1), steals (7-4), fastbreak points (16-13), points in the paint (54-24) and scored 17 points off 15 Purchase miscues. Purchase held a 20-8 advantage in bench scoring.
Purchase is back at home on Monday to take on non-conference SUNY-Delhi at 7 p.m.
