FALL 2020 UPDATE

In response to the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Purchase College has decided to suspend all intercollegiate programs for the fall semester.

The College will be implementing remote instruction and limiting the number of students on campus for the fall semester. With health and safety concerns and limits to campus attendance at the forefront, fall sports including men's and women's soccer, men's and women's cross country, women's volleyball and golf have been canceled. Women's tennis will compete in the spring semester. Winter programs, including men's and women's basketball and men's and women's swimming will look to begin competing after Jan. 1.

"It is with a heavy heart that this decision was made but ultimately our student-athletes' health and safety are the most important things to us," said Chris Bisignano, Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation.  "As we get ready to pivot towards the spring semester we aim to be back and ready to compete. Go Panthers!"

On Thursday, Purchase Interim President Dennis Craig notified the campus community of the reopening plans for the fall semester. Below is the section on Athletics in the SUNY-approved plan.

Extracurricular activities including, athletics, intramurals and student performances
The majority of extracurricular activities offered by various Student Affairs offices, including student government programming, as well as intramurals, will be offered through virtual and remote methods.  However, there may be a small number of programs or activities that can be offered in-person when the college social distancing policies as well as protocols from state and local authorities can be met.  If standards are met, a minimal number may be offered by respective college offices. Large group gatherings and events will be prohibited. Performances/exhibitions will not be open to the public.

There will be no athletic competitions in the fall semester. Support will be provided for student-athletes to continue to train within safety guidelines. We hope conditions will allow for the resumption of competition in the spring semester.
