Panthers Battle Bulldogs in Home Opener

PURCHASE, N.Y. – Purchase College swimming and diving opened its 2023 home slate with a non-conference dual meet against Brooklyn College Tuesday evening. 

Despite their best efforts the Panthers came up short against the Bulldogs, falling 103-67 on the women's end and 112-53 on the men's side.

Results

Purchase clocked its first top finish in the men's 200-yard medley relay. David Whitmer, Matthias Schmidt (SR/White Plains, NY), Daniel Karpf (SR/Floral Park, NY) and Juan Delossantos-DeLeon (SO/Bronx, NY) swam a combined time of 2:04.88.

Junior captain Chloe McDonald (JR/Highland Falls, NY) recorded Purchase's first individual win of the evening after sweeping the competition in the women's 1000-yard freestyle. With a notable 14:09.97 time, McDonald finished more than three minutes head of Brooklyn's Diana Plasencia (17:27.66), who finished in second place.

Karpf took second in the men's 200-freestyle, while Schmidt clocked in at No. 2 for the 200-IM. Whitmer, Luke Mallory and Tristen Keane-Negri (JR/Brooklyn, NY) added to the individual highlights with second-place finishes in the 100-butterfly, 100-backstroke and 100-breaststroke, respectively.

McDonald would later again take the top spot, following her 1:14.85 time in the women's 100-backstroke. 

Kylee Martin (JR/Wilton, NY) collected a second-place finish in the 200-freestyle, while Paris Judy took second in the 200-IM. Victor Vyssotski (SO/Tarrytown, NY) and Jaelyn Stevens (FR/Gouverneur, NY) also picked up second-place finishes for Purchase following their efforts in the 500-free and 100-breaststroke, respectively. 

The Panthers capped the scoring on the women's side with a 2:21.45 first-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay. 

Purchase returns to action on Nov. 17 for its Skyline Conference opener against Maritime College. The road meet is slated for 6 p.m.
