Panthers Score Nine Goals in Non-Conference Victory

PURCHASE, N.Y. - For the first time in nearly a decade, the Purchase College men's soccer team scored nine goals in game, as the Panthers steamrolled The City College of New York Wednesday night, 9-1.

The nine strikes were the most the squad had recorded since September 19, 2013, when it bested Sarah Lawrence College by the score of 9-0.

Leading the way for the Blue and Orange was a pair of first-year students, Ermin Mackic (Yonkers, NY) and Oliver Broun (Athens, GA), each of whom recorded a hat trick in the massive victory.

Despite the historic performance, it was actually the visitors that jumped in front early on, as they used free-kick set piece in the fourth minute to grab the lead.

The score remained 1-0 until the 15th minute, when Broun scored his first goal of the night off feeds from Mackic and Leo Conte (SR/New York, NY).

Five minutes later, Broun doubled the total after knocking in a rebounded save right in front of goal. In the 27th minute, Mackic scored his first via a penalty kick, before Matthew Cuartas (FR/Greenwich, CT) added one shortly before halftime.

At the break, Purchase lead 4-1. Once the second half began, the Panthers picked up right where they left off, as Liam George (JR/Brooklyn, NY) knocked in a strike in 48th minute.

From there, Broun scored again in the 61st minute, while Mackic added goals in the 74th and 82nd. Cuartas chipped in his second of the night in the 89th minute to seal the 9-1 performance.

Mackic, fresh of his Skyline Conference Rookie of the Week nod, finished with three goals and three assists. Broun, along with Luca Li Vigni (SO/Staten Island, NY) and Alejandro Martinez (JR/Mount Vernon, NY), each tallied an assist in the performance.

With the win, the hosts moved to 2-1 overall. As for the Beavers of CCNY, they dropped to 0-2.

The Panthers have now scored 14 goals in their last two games and will look to continue the offensive fireworks at Brooklyn College on September 16th at 3 p.m.
