Softball Sweeps Home Opener Against Brooklyn College

PURCHASE, N.Y. – The Purchase College softball team dominated their doubleheader home opener against Brooklyn College on Saturday afternoon.

With the results, the Blue and Orange start the season off 2-0, while the Bulldogs drop to 2-9.

Game One: Purchase 15, Brooklyn 7 (5 inn.)

The Panthers' bats erupted early, plating four runs in the first inning, led by Kat Combe's (SR/Brooklyn, NY) two-RBI single. Brooklyn answered with a four-run second inning to tie the game, but Purchase immediately responded with a seven-run third inning, highlighted by Sariah Sanchez's (FY/Eastvale, CA) three-run double. Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY) added a two-run homer in the fourth, sealing the Panthers' commanding 15-7 win in five innings.

Individually, Reddick had four runs, including a home run, two RBIs, and two stolen bases. Tyler Salerno (SO/Kings Park, NY) added three runs, two RBIs, and a double, while Sanchez had three RBIs, a double, and a stolen base. Combe rounded things out with three RBIs and a double.

Pitching all five innings in the first game, Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) earned her first win of the season, allowing seven runs on four hits while recording six strikeouts and 11 walks.

Game Two: Purchase 14, Brooklyn 5 (6 inn.)

After Brooklyn struck first with a run in the opening inning, Purchase quickly responded with two in the bottom half, including an RBI triple from Reddick. The Bulldogs held a 4-2 lead after two innings, but the Panthers fought back, tying the game in the third before exploding for three runs in the fifth and seven in the sixth to enforce the run-rule victory.

Individually, Reddick had three runs, two RBIs, a double, and a triple, while Sanchez went 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a double. Kelly Jennings (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY) added three RBIs, and Salerno contributed four runs, an RBI, two doubles, and a stolen base.

Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) took the win in game two, pitching six innings and allowing five runs on eight hits, with four errors, seven walks, and five strikeouts.

The Blue and Orange are back on the field March 16th for a doubleheader against Hunter College during their home opener weekend. The games are set to start at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
