PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team split a doubleheader with Hunter College on Sunday afternoon.
With the results, the Blue and Orange are now 3-1 while the Hawks moved to 1-3.
Game One: Hunter 21, Purchase 13 (6 inn.)
Hunter took an offensive slugfest in the opener, outlasting Purchase 21-13. Despite a strong day at the plate with 18 hits, the Panthers couldn't keep pace with the guest's relentless attack.
Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY) led Purchase with a 4-for-5 performance, including a triple and three RBIs. Sariah Sanchez (FY/Eastvale, CA) also contributed four hits and three RBIs, while Tyler Salerno (SO/Kings Park, NY) and Cameron Wright (FY/Portland, OR) added two RBIs each.
On the mound, sophomore Sam Christopher (1-1) of North Babylon, NY, took the loss, surrendering 14 runs over 3.2 innings. First-year Ava Knox (Mahopac, NY) came on in relief, allowing seven runs on seven hits while recording one strikeout.
Game Two: Purchase 5, Hunter 4 (7 inn.)
The Panthers bounced back in Game 2 with a 5-4 victory, anchored by a strong performance from Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY), who improved to 2-0 on the mound.
Hunter jumped ahead with a four-run second inning, but Purchase responded with steady scoring and solid defense to close out the game.
Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) doubled in a first-inning run, then stole home in the third to tie the game. Sanchez's RBI single in the fourth gave Purchase the lead for good. Goff went the distance, scattering seven hits while striking out four.
The Blue and Orange hit the road on March 21st, traveling to York College for a doubleheader set for 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
