Softball Dominates York in Doubleheader Sweep

BELLEROSE, N.Y. – Purchase College softball powered past York College in a dominant doubleheader performance on Friday evening.

With the results, the Blue and Orange are now 5-1, while the Cardinals drop to 2-4. 

Game One: Purchase 25, York 1 (5 inn.)

The Panthers overwhelmed their hosts in the first game, racking up 20 hits in a five-inning blowout.

The guests exploded for nine runs in the first inning, capitalizing on York's defensive miscues and timely hitting. Purchase added one run in the second, five in the third, two in the fourth, and eight in the fifth to cap off their offensive onslaught.

Individually, Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) went 4-for-4 with 5 RBIs and a double, while Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY) also went 4-for-4 with 2 RBIs and three doubles.

Mel Harper (SO/East Patchogue, NY) scored four runs and added an RBI, while Kat Combe (SR/Brooklyn, NY) tallied 3 RBIs and a double.

First-year Ava Knox (Mahopac, NY) (1-0) made her first full appearance, successfully protecting the mound while allowing one run on three hits and two walks, with eight strikeouts.

Game Two: Purchase 23, York 1 (5 inn.)

The Panthers came out swinging, plating three runs in the first inning and never looked back. They exploded for five more in the second, followed by four runs in the third and fourth innings, before capping it off with a seven-run fifth.

Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) was stellar in the circle, improving to 3-0 after allowing just one run on two hits while striking out 10 in a complete-game effort.

Offensively, Purchase tallied 19 hits, led by Kelly Jennings (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY) who went 4-for-5 with four runs scored. Greaige added three hits, including a triple, and drove in three runs. Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY) blasted a solo homer in the third, while Cameron Wright (FY/Portland, OR) and Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) each doubled and had three runs.

The Blue and Orange return to action on March 29th when they host Baruch College for another doubleheader.
