PURCHASE, N.Y. - The Purchase College softball team dropped both games of a Skyline Conference doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Manhattanville University.
With the results, the Blue and Orange dropped to 7-9 overall and 1-5 in the conference, while the Valiants improved to 16-6 and remained undefeated in the conference 6-0.
Game One: MU 10, Purchase 2 (6 inn.)
The Panthers took a brief lead in the top of the second inning, but Manhattanville quickly answered and shut down the Purchase offense the rest of the way.
Halle Greaige (SO/Rye Brook, NY) sparked the offense with a two-RBI double, scoring Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) and Kelly Jennings (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY), who had each reached on a walk.
Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, including a double.
Starting pitcher Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) dropped to 3-5 on the season, allowing six runs on seven hits with six errors behind her. Ava Knox (FY/Mahopac, NY) entered in relief and gave up four runs on one hit.
Game Two: MU 11, Purchase 0 (5 inn.)
The Panthers were stifled in the second game, with only Bronzi managing to break through at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a stolen base. Her scoring attempt was ultimately denied by the Valiants' defense.
Manhattanville struck early with four runs in the first inning and added seven more in the third to end the game in five.
Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY) took the loss (3-4), allowing 11 runs on nine hits, with the Panthers committing 11 errors. Knox tossed a scoreless 1.1 innings in relief.
Up next, the Blue and Orange return home to host Mount Saint Mary College on April 17 with games scheduled for 3:30 and 5:30 p.m.
