BRONXVILLE, N.Y. – Purchase College softball delivered a dominant Skyline sweep at Sarah Lawrence Saturday afternoon, shutting out the host team in back-to-back games, 12-0 and 9-0.
With the results, the Blue and Orange improved to 9-11 overall and 3-7 in the conference, while the Gryphons dropped to 3-20 and 2-6, respectively.
Game One: Purchase 12, Sarah Lawrence 0 ( 5 inn.)
Purchase jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first, highlighted by RBI hits from
Sariah Sanchez (FY/Eastvale, CA) and a three-run error off the bat of
Cameron Wright (FY/Portland, OR). The offense kept rolling with three more in the second, capped by a sacrifice fly from
Becca Bronzi (SR/Lagrangeville, NY) and another outfield miscue that allowed Sanchez to score.
The Panthers added five runs across the next two innings, including a two-run double from Sanchez in the third and RBI knocks from
Sam Christopher (SO/North Babylon, NY),
Arielle Reddick (FY/Fishkill, NY), and
Devynn Hernandez (SO/Ossining, NY) in the fourth.
Individually, Christopher finished 4-for-4 with a triple and three runs scored. Reddick also went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and four runs, while Sanchez drove in five and scored three on a 3-for-4 day.
Ava Knox (FY/Mahopac, NY) was dominant in the circle, tossing a two-hit shutout to improve to 2–0 on the season.
Game Two: Purchase 9, Sarah Lawrence 0 ( 5 inn.)
The Panthers continued their offensive onslaught in game two, collecting 14 hits in another five-inning shutout.
Purchase struck first in the top of the first, with Sanchez drove in Bronzi with a single. The offense exploded in the third, beginning with a solo home run by Reddick. Later, Purchase added four more runs with a double by Hernandez and a 2-RBI single by Greaige.
The Panthers tacked on another three runs in the fourth, as
Tyler Salerno (SO/Kings Park, NY) and
Kelly Jennings (JR/Yorktown Heights, NY) delivered clutch hits to extend the lead to 8-0. Christopher stole the final run of the game in the fifth.
Liv Goff (SO/Syracuse, NY) earned the win (4-6) with four hitless innings, striking out six before Knox closed the door with a perfect fifth.
Up next, the Blue and Orange travel to Yeshiva University on April 25th for a morning doubleheader starting at 10:30 a.m.
