(Mar. 4, 2012) – Saturday night's momentum carried over into Sunday morning at Taft High School as the Purchase baseball team coasted in both ends of their Skyline Conference opener against Yeshiva University.
The Panthers (4-4) also moved back to the .500 mark, winning their fourth straight game in two days. Purchase topped the Maccabees 14-3 in game one and 17-4 in game two. Purchase, now 2-0 in conference play, tied the opener at 1-1 in the second after falling behind in game one.
Purchase then erupted for eight runs in the third inning. The Panthers tacked on five more in the next three frames, while limiting Yeshiva to two runs in the fifth. Ace
Matt Paz* (JR/Bridgeport, CT) tossed seven strong innings, allowing two earned runs in his complete game effort. The right-hander struck out 10 and walked none.
Offensively, the Panthers pounded out 13 hits, highlighted by a three-hit performance from red-hot first baseman
Phil Georges (JR/Brooklyn, NY) and two hits apiece from
Colin Morris (JR/Bridgeport, CT),
Kevin McQuade (SR/Mamaroneck, NY) and
Mark Donahue (SR/Brookhaven, NY). McQuade accounted for three RBI. Georges had two doubles in the opener. Co-captain
Josh Spielberg (SR/Oceanside, NY) and McQuade also doubled. Morris scored three runs, while teammates, Spielberg and fellow co-captain

Purchase ran all over Yeshiva, swiping nine bases in the win.
The Panthers kept rolling in game two as well.

Frank Fiumara* (SR/Port Chester, NY) were the hitting stars. Donahue finished with three hits and two RBI; Fiumara picked up where he left off Saturday night in a doubleheader sweep of Worcester State with five RBI; and Francisco drove home three himself to complete the sweep.
Robert Robles (FR/Bronx, NY) also continued his hot play with two hits, two runs and an RBI in the win.
Michael Moore (JR/Bronx, NY) and
Isaac Feldman (JR/Holbrook, NY) combined for a perfect inning of relief in the seventh, with each striking out one apiece.
The Panthers rebounded from an early 2-1 deficit, reeling off a nine-run fifth that secured the overwhelming victory in game two.
Purchase will look to make it five straight next Saturday at Silver Lake Park in West Harrison, NY as they welcome SUNY New Paltz for the first game of a twin bill at noon.
