(Apr. 15, 2012) – SUNY Maritime won both ends of a Skyline Conference doubleheader against visiting Purchase Sunday.
The Privateers won the opener 8-5 and game two, 3-0, improving to 15-13 overall.
In the opener, Maritime took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning after an RBI single by Matt Jernegan and a two-RBI single by Thomas Bauer. The Panthers came back to score two in the third and then three more in the fifth to go ahead 5-4, but Maritime answered back in the sixth with four runs.
Maritime's Christopher Myers earned his team-leading fifth victory of the season after pitching a complete game, allowing five runs (four earned) on seven hits with six strikeouts.
For the Panthers,
Colin Morris (JR/Bridgeport, CT) had two hits and two RBI, while teammate,
Robert Robles (FR/Bronx, NY) added two RBI of his own in game one at Reinhart Field.
Game two saw a stellar pitching performance by junior Trevor Cannella, who threw a complete game shutout, while allowing just four hits. Despite pitching well,
Miller Lulow* (JR/New York, NY) took the loss for Purchase.
Michael Sarni (JR/Shelton, CT) paced the lineup with two hits for the Panthers.
