Panthers Inch Closer Toward Playoff

Box Score

Brooklyn, NY (Apr. 20, 2012) – Resuming its split twin bill a week after game one, Purchase baseball topped NYU-POLY 11-7 on the road Friday afternoon.

The victory, coupled with a pair of losses by SUNY Maritime, has the Panthers on the brink of a postseason berth if the team can sweep Saturday's action with Mount Saint Mary at home – the final regular season games of 2012. A week after trouncing NYU-POLY 32-10, Purchase rallied against the Fighting Blue Jays to keep its postseason chances alive.

Each team scored a run in the first, but the Panthers netted five in a huge third inning, adding single runs in the fourth and sixth before breaking it open in a three-run seventh. NYU-POLY cut it to 7-5, but the seventh put some space between the Panthers and the hosts.
Starter Miller Lulow* (JR/New York, NY) got the win, going six innings. He allowed five runs (four earned) and struck out four. Rookie Vince McCarty (FR/Huntington, NY) finished off the game with three solid innings of relief.

Leo Francisco (SO/Bedford Hills, NY) tallied three hits for Purchase. Co-captain Will Bernstein* (SR/Staten Island, NY) also had a nice day at the plate, going 2 for 5 with two doubles, three RBI and two runs scored. Panthers Kevin McQuade (SR/Mamaroneck, NY) and Phil Georges (JR/Brooklyn, NY) each added two hits apiece.

With the loss, the Jays fall to 1-11 in the Skyline and 3-25 overall, while Purchase improved to 5-9 in conference play, 12-22 overall.
