Runaway Panthers Steamroll to Ninth Straight Win, Stay Perfect in Conference

Box Score - Game 1
Box Score - Game 2

Bronx, NY (Apr. 14, 2013) – A day after Adam Brant (FR/Hyde Park, NY) hurled a game-two no-hitter at MSMC, which clinched two more Skyline Conference victories, Purchase wasted little time getting back to work on Sunday, reeling off two more league wins.

In the process, Purchase is now 18-9 overall – the best start in program history through the first 27 games. To boot, the first-place Panthers are a perfect 10-0 in the league and have won nine straight ballgames, setting themselves up for a possible home playoff game in a couple of weeks.

Sunday, Purchase dominated the College of Mount Saint Vincent, topping the Dolphins on their home turf, 20-3 and 12-1, respectively.

CMSV fell behind in the early going in game one after Purchase plated five runs in each of the first two innings. The Panthers sent 10 hitters to the plate in their first at-bat and got two-run doubles from Michael Skoller (JR/East Meadow, NY) and Josh Spielberg (SR/Oceanside, NY).

Purchase sent 11 more hitters to the plate in the second inning and got a second two-run double from Skoller in the inning. Daniel Stroud (SR/Nyack, NY) and Ronald Echavarria (SR/Bronx, NY) also drove in runs with doubles for the visitors.

The Panthers scored at least three runs in their first five at-bats in game one, before Mount Saint Vincent got on the board with all three of its runs in the home half of the fifth.

Mount Saint Vincent was outhit in game one 21-11 with Purchase showing six players with at least two hits. Skoller finished the game an impressive 6 for 6 with four doubles, four runs scored and five RBI. Stroud was 3 for 5 with three doubles and scored three times for the Panthers.

In the back end of the doubleheader, the two teams played scoreless until Purchase broke through with two runs in the fourth. Stroud scored on a wild pitch to open the scoring before Justin Sherman (SR/New Rochelle, NY) scored on a run-scoring groundout.

Purchase would go on to break game two open with five tallies in the fifth and five more in the sixth. Sherman delivered a two-run single in the big fifth for the Panthers and Echavarria doubled home two more runs in the sixth.

Mount Saint Vincent scored its lone run of the game in the home half of the fifth inning.

Skoller closed out a strong afternoon with three more hits in game two, with Echavarria collecting two hits and three RBI. Colin Morris (SR/Bridgeport, CT) also drove in three runs and Stroud scored three times.

It was another memorable weekend for Purchase, to say the least, as the Panthers added four more conference wins to what has already amounted to a dream season. The Panthers have six Skyline games remaining, including next weekend's road series with Farmingdale State on Saturday and a twin bill against Yeshiva on Sunday, which is Senior Day.

In all, Purchase has eight games remaining before the postseason opens on May 1.
