Newburgh, NY
(Apr. 13, 2013) – First-year pitcher,
Adam Brant, has forever etched his name in the record book after a fantastic performance on the mound, pitching a complete no-hitter in game two of a conference doubleheader against Mount Saint Mary College Saturday afternoon.
After winning the opener, 9-4, the Panthers were able to clinch a 1-0 defeat over the Knights in the finale. The ace pitcher took home his career first no-hitter and remains undefeated with a 3-0 record.
Brant
(FR/Hyde Park, NY) had five strikeouts to go with three walks as he joins
Mitchell Paz (SO/Bridgeport, CT) as the only Purchase Panthers to hold an opponent hitless. Paz had his earlier this season.
Flawless pitching and defense lead the Panthers to win the game. MSMC's Ryan Gerhart took home his first loss of the season.
The only run of the game came in the fourth off a
Ronald Echavarria (SR/Bronx, NY) RBI fly-out that brought
Daniel Stroud (SR/Nyack, NY) in to score.
To start off the inning, Stroud walked and then advanced into scoring position off a single by
Justin Sherman (SR/New Rochelle, NY).
In game one, Purchase jumped out to an early lead on a run-scoring single from Sherman, who then advanced into scoring position off a single by Echavarria and a balk.
An RBI groundout by
Michael Skoller (JR/East Meadow, NY) would advance Echarvarria to third and bring Sherman home to make it 2-0 with two outs.
Josh Spielberg (SR/Oceanside, NY) singled to bring in the final run of the inning.
Two errors by the Knights brought in two runs for the Panthers in the second. MSMC clawed back into the game with single runs in the second, third and fifth. They trailed the Panthers 5-3 going into the top of the eighth.
An RBI single from Purchase's
Frank Fiumara* (SR/Port Chester, NY) and a bases-clearing double by Sherman would rack in another four runs for the Panthers in the eighth.
The Knights managed just one run in the eighth on their way to a 9-4 defeat.
Top hitters for Purchase included Sherman, Spielberg and Fiumara, who each went 2 for 4. Stroud went 2 for 5 and combined with
Michael Sarni (SR/Shelton,CT) to account for five of Purchase's nine runs.
On the mound for the Panthers,
Mitchell Paz (3-2) went five innings with five strikeouts. He gave up seven hits and walked three.
Miller Lulow* (SR/New York, NY) capped off the game, allowing one run to score over the four inning stretch.
The Panthers, now 8-0 in the Skyline Conference, return to action Sunday with a conference doubleheader against The College of Mount St. Vincent starting at noon.
