(Apr. 23, 2013) – The #19/20 Ramapo College baseball team earned a 13-6 win over Purchase Tuesday at Jeff Maund Field.
The Roadrunners improve to 23-8-1 overall while the Panthers fall to 20-14.
Purchase got on the board first with two runs in the top of the first inning before Ramapo came back to tie the game at two in the bottom half of the inning. Ramapo took a 3-2 lead in the second on Christian Spurr's RBI single to center field before the Panthers scored two runs in the third to take a 4-3 lead.
The Roadrunners would come back to score five runs in the fifth inning on five hits to take the lead for good, 8-4.
The Roadrunners scored two more runs in the sixth inning as Spurr scored on a wild pitch and Kevin Kelly drove home Chris Werr with a double to left field (10-4).
Ramapo added three runs on four hits in the seventh inning, extending their lead to 13-4 before Purchase added two runs in the eighth inning.
Dave Jacob led the hosts at the plate (2 for 2) with a triple, double, one run scored and two RBI, while Spurr was 3 for 5 with two RBI.
Ramapo's Mark Doyle (3-0) earned the win in relief.

Offensively, the Panthers were led by red-hot hitters
Ronald Echavarria (SR/Bronx, NY) and
Daniel Stroud (SR/Nyack, NY), who helped the visitors take an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Both collected three hits apiece, combining for six of the team's 11 hits in the single game. Echavarria homered, his league-leading seventh of the season, and in the process, raised his average to .500 (45 for 90).
Purchase, which has already secured a top three spot in next week's Skyline Conference tournament, will close out the regular season this weekend at Old Westbury. The result of the doubleheader will determine final playoff seeding.
