Box Score

Troy, NY (Sept. 24, 2013) – The women's tennis team traveled to Sage Tuesday and walked away with a convincing 7-2 victory in Purchase's Skyline Conference opener.

The loss dropped Sage to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Skyline Conference, while Purchase is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Purchase took two of three in doubles and then five of the six singles matches.

Angela Assal (FR/Bronx, NY) pulled off a win that numerous other opponents could not as she defeated Sage's Kristen Ackerman, 6-0, 6-4. Ackerman is the reigning Skyline Conference Player of the Week. The loss was the first dual match defeat of her career, as she had been 20-0 lifetime at Sage in dual match singles play and 21-1 overall.

Assal snapped Ackerman's 14-match win-streak that had dated back to the last week of September, 2012.

The lone wins for the Gators came at No. 2 singles as Nicole Riley posted a victory in the tie-breaker, and Sage also won at first doubles.

Katherine Coleman (JR/Dewittville, NY) won at third singles for Purchase (6-1, 6-3); Emma Yavel (FR/Brooklyn, NY) added a singles win at No. 4 (6-1, 6-3) and Jasmine Rippey (SO/Deansboro, NY) and Erika Fulton (FR/Wallingford, CT) finished off the singles in grand fashion with victories at the fifth and sixth spots. Rippey won a tough third set 10-5 to keep things going for the Panthers in a dominant singles performance.

Coleman and Juliette Ferraro (SO/Northport, NY) teamed for the win at second doubles and Pavel and Anna Palmer (SO/Nyack, NY) finished off the doubles in victory at No. 3.
