Baseball Dismantles NYU-POLY

Purchase, NY (Apr. 22, 2014) – Purchase resumed its doubleheader with NYU-POLY that was cut short from Apr. 4. The Panthers, who topped the Jays in game one of that twin bill before rains washed away game two, overwhelmed NYU-POLY Tuesday night at home, 20-2.

The Panthers scored 20 runs on 12 hits, aided by eight errors.

Michael Skoller (SR/East Meadow, NY), Michael Piekarczyk (FR/Dudley, MA), Elan Trischitta (JR/Saugerties, NY), Frank Fantino (JR/Nanuet, NY) and Teofilo Ramirez (SO/Queens, NY) each recorded two RBI apiece. Trischitta and Ramirez finished with two hits apiece. The big shots of the night were triples by Trischitta and Piekarczyk.

Purchase starter Miguel Reyes (FR/Bronx, NY) earned the win on the mound. The nine-inning game was called after seven innings.

NYU-POLY was led by Julian Santulli and his two hits and one RBI. Kian Downes took the loss on the mound for the Jays, who hosted the rescheduled single game of the doubleheader at Purchase.  The Panthers won the first game on Apr. 4, 24-11.

Purchase will now host John Jay in a single, nine-inning game Thursday before capping the regular season on the weekend. On Saturday, the Panthers have a conference doubleheader with Mount Saint Mary that will determine seeding for next week's tournament. Purchase will then travel to CSI On Sunday. The Panthers are fighting for the No. 1 seed with multiple teams, including Old Westbury. Saturday also marks the annual Senior Day festivities.  

First pitch Thursday is set for 4 p.m. Saturday's first pitch is set for noon.
