(Apr. 5, 2014) – Although the weather wouldn't cooperate and the baseball team wasn't able to get two games in Friday night, the Panthers managed to play one, winning big over NYU-POLY, 24-11.
Rains showered on the twin bill, but the Panthers trudged through, scoring three runs in the second and third, respectively, after the two teams tied 1-1 after the first.
Purchase, which was the road team, broke it open in the fourth behind seven runs and never looked back.
The Panthers added two more in the sixth, three in the seventh and then five in the eighth as the game was called.
NYU-POLY scratched across a single run in the third and battled back, scoring three in the fifth and four in the sixth before capping the game with single runs in the seventh and eighth.
In the win, Purchase totaled 11 hits and 24 runs, utilizing some timely hitting.
Elan Trischitta (JR/Saugerties, NY) and
Michael Sarni (SR/Shelton, CT) accounted for four of the team's 11 hits. Trischitta and
Michael Skoller (SR/East Meadow, NY) had big nights at the plate with triples. Skoller knocked in three RBI. Sarni added two of his own, while Trischitta scored four times.
The visitors were led by Nate Albers, who collected three hits and three RBI.
The two teams will have to make up the second game of the doubleheader at a later date.
