Patchogue, NY (Apr. 6, 2014)  Tied 1-1 and down to their final eight outs, Purchase College's baseball team scored the final run of the game to defeat St. Joseph's College-LI, 2-1, in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.  The Panthers, now 7-8 on the season and 5-3 in the Skyline, were able to salvage a split of the twin bill after dropping the opener, 5-3.

In game one, SJC-LI (8-12, 4-3 Skyline) starting pitcher Steve Szobesky surrendered just two runs over 6 1/3 innings.  Frank Trionfo picked up the victory for the Eagles in relief.

The Golden Eagles got on the board with an RBI single by Josh Outsen and an RBI double by Anthony Bonilla in the second inning.

Purchase got one run back in the fourth off a Michael Sarni (SR/Shelton, CT) RBI double and one in the seventh off a Leandro Francisco (SR/Bedford Hills, NY) RBI single as the Panthers trailed 3-2 heading into the eighth.

The Eagles got the first two men on in the eighth inning and they came around to score, bringing the home team to a 5-2 lead. Purchase got a run in the ninth but it wasn't enough as the Eagles cruised to a 5-3 victory.

The Panthers struck first in the game two with a run in the second off a single RBI by Jonathan Lul (SR/Riverhead, NY).  The Eagles responded via an RBI single in the bottom half of the inning. Sarni's single RBI in the fifth regained the lead for the Panthers.  Purchase held off the Eagles rally in the seventh with a runner in scoring position and two outs to take home the 2-1 win.

Chris Nast (JR/Pound Ridge, NY) pitched a complete seven innings in game two and earned the win for Purchase.  He allowed only four hits and two walks while striking out five batters.

Purchase heads to SUNY Maritime Saturday for a conference doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
