(May 2, 2014) – The Purchase baseball team fell to the Rams of Farmingdale State, 7-1, in the opening Skyline Conference semifinal game at the Jackie Robinson Athletic Complex on Friday evening.
Purchase's single run came in the top of the second off a single RBI by
Tefilo Remirez (SO/Queens, NY), which brough teammate
Leandro Francisco (SR/Bedford Hills, NY) in to score. With two outs remaining and two left on base, center fielder
Aryn Giddens (SR/Queens, NY) grounded out to second base to end the inning.
The Rams caught a 2-1 lead in the third after a pass ball sent Kenneth Johntry home to score (unearned) and advanced Edward Bergman to third. Michael Marino's RBI groundout would score the second run for the Rams.
Farmingdale scored again in the bottom of the fourth and another two in both the eighth and ninth innings.
A scoreless ninth inning for the Panthers would end the game in Farmingdale favor, 7-1.
Ram pitcher, Michael Dolce earned the win for Farmingdale after 4.1 innings of action. Dolce allowed only three hits, one run and two walks while striking out four.
Farmingdale was led by Johntry who went 2 for 4 with one RBI.
Adam Brant (SO/Hyde Park, NY) took the loss for Purchase. He gave up three hits and three runs (two earned) in 3.2 innings on the mound.
With the loss, the Panthers return to the field tomorrow at 1 p.m. to face St. Joseph's College-LI. Winner of that game will advance to the 4 p.m. game, which concludes the semifinal portion the weekend. Championships will be held Sunday morning.
